Join Karin Hutchinson for an indepth discussion in this video Solution: Solve equations with variables on both sides, part of Learning Algebra: Solving Equations.
These are the solutions to worksheet number 10.…Please check your solutions,…and if any of your solutions don't match mine,…continue watching this video, and I will walk you…step by step through every single problem.…Problem A is.…Since we don't have any parentheses, we can begin solving.…Our goal is to get all the variables…on one side of the equation,…so I'm going to move the 5p over to the lefthand side.…So in order to do that, I'm going to have to subtract 5p…from the righthand side of the equation,…and that means that I will also need to subtract 5p…from the lefthand side,…so I'm going to leave myself a little space…to write the 5p next to the 3p…so that my like terms are side by side.…
Now let's combine our like terms.…We have 3p minus 5p, which is negative 2p,…and I'm going to bring down the rest of the problem.…Here, 5p minus 5p is zero, so I'm left with negative 60.…Now I'm down to a two step equation,…and I can continue solving by getting rid of the constant,…which is minus 4, which means I'm going to add 4…
