The problem for letter A is X plus 38 equals negative 20. For this problem, we'll begin by bringing down the left-hand side of the equation. So, we have X plus 38 and then since we're adding 38, the opposite operation is to subtract. So, we're going to subtract 38 on both sides of the equation. Because remember that whatever you do to one side you must do to the other side. On the left-hand side, we now have 38 minus 38. That equals zero. And we're left with X equals negative 20 minus 38. You could also re-write that as negative 20 plus negative 38 and that equals negative 58. So, the final answer for letter A is X equals negative 58.
