Join Jen Kramer for an in-depth discussion in this video Updating Joomla! to the next version, part of Installing and Running Joomla! 3: Local and Web-Hosted Sites.
- The next thing I'd like to show you…is what happens when you have a copy of Joomla running…and a new update comes out for Joomla.…So I've actually downloaded an older copy of Joomla…this is Joomla three dot two dot four.…Then I downloaded and installed locally here…on my local machine.…There's nothing here on the site…because I just installed Joomla…just to show you this one thing.…And if you go to the back end of Joomla and you log in,…when there is a new version of Joomla that's out…and avalible, the first thing that you're going to see,…hopefully it's the first thing you're going to see,…is this red bar across the top of the page.…
And it's says Joomla 3.3.3 is available, update now.…If you scroll down the page to the bottom,…where it says maintenance, it'll also tell you…that Jooma 3.3.3 is available and update now.…So what I would recommend that you do…is not to click the update now button just yet.…The very first thing you need to do…is you need to backup your website.…Whether you do that though Akeeba backup…

Q: This course was updated on 05/30/2018. What changed?
A: Joomla no longer supports PHP 5.6 and lower and will issue an error message if it detects an outdated version on your host server. We added three videos that show how to resolve the error message, by updating PHP in your MAMP or WAMP stack.
