- [Voiceover] Hi, I'm Jen Kramer. Welcome to Installing and Running Joomla! 3 Local and Web Hosted. Joomla! 3, the open-source content management system, can run in two types of environments. One is a local environment that's on the computer in front of you, via MAMP or WAMP. The other is on a web host. Which environment should you use when, and how should you configure these? First, we'll take a look at our local environments, including installing Joomla! With WAMP and making backups locally.
Next, we'll look at Joomla! On a web host, including choosing a web host, installing Joomla! On the host, and placing the site on offline mode. We'll practice moving a Joomla! Site from your local environment to a host, and we'll move the site from a host to a local environment. Finally, we'll look at how to update Joomla! And its extensions. So if you're ready, let's get started with installing and running Joomla! 3: Local and Web-Hosted.
Q: This course was updated on 05/30/2018. What changed?
A: Joomla no longer supports PHP 5.6 and lower and will issue an error message if it detects an outdated version on your host server. We added three videos that show how to resolve the error message, by updating PHP in your MAMP or WAMP stack.
