Shadows: Learning 3D Graphics on the Web with Three.js
Shadows: Learning 3D Graphics on the Web with Three.js

The lighting is helping a bit in understanding the dimensionality of the scene but it is not great at this point as it is missing shadows. Rendering a shadow in three.js is unfortunately not too straightforward. This is because shadows are computationally expensive and we need to activate shadow rendering on multiple places. The renderer needs to start rendering shadows, the objects need to cast or receive shadows, and the light needs to cast shadows as well. After setting all this up, you should start seeing shadows in the scene.
