History of JavaScript

- [Instructor] JavaScript got its beginnings back in mid 1990s when Netscape Communications wanted to expand the capabilities of webpages. At the time, webpages were very static, and contained little interactivity with the user. People would load a page, click on a link, and browse through pages. There were technologies that resided on a server to help make websites interactive, but they were cumbersome and complicated to implement. The name JavaScript has always been confusing because even though it has Java in the name, it has nothing to do with the Java programming language that was then part of Sun Microsystems. At first, internally it was known as Mocha, and then LiveScript, but in late 1995 it was renamed JavaScript to try and capture the buzz going around Java at the time, even though it wasn't related at all. Over time, there were variants of JavaScript that came out, most notably Jscript that came out from Microsoft, and was part of Internet Explorer in 1996. Unfortunately…
