- [Peggy] Welcome. My name is Peggy Fisher, and this is my series on Lambda Expressions in Java. With Java 8, Oracle included, the Java specification request JSR-335 Lambda Expression for the Java Programming Language. For those of you who are not familiar with JSRs, they are actual descriptions of proposed and final specifications for the Java platform. The lambda expressions provide a clear and concise way to represent one method interface using an expression.
Lambda expressions also improve the collection library, making it easier to iterate through, filter, and extract data from a collection using streams. To help transition to this new feature of Java 8, I will review the syntax, walk through examples of using lambda with Java collection, streams and maps. Before we dive into lambdas, I will also review the concept of functional interfaces. Now, let's get started with lambda expressions in Java.
