Join Robert Anthony for an in-depth discussion in this video What you should know, part of JIRA Software: Basic Administration.
- [Instructor] If you're taking this course, you should already be comfortable with basic use of JIRA as a user. This may mean you have watched my previous video on the series, or that you have been using JIRA for six months to a year with multiple projects and or instances. You should understand how to create issues, how to navigate JIRA top level drop down menus, how to search for issues and understand the concept of statuses and transitions within workflows. We don't want to risk damaging anything in your company's instance, which is why we suggest you follow these installation instructions to ensure you are working in a closed sandbox environment where mistakes are encouraged.
Be sure to pay close attention to the following process so that your instance will be configured correctly for this video. I'm going to proceed to the following URL that should be displayed on your screen. Select JIRA software, the left most option. This will direct you to the account sign up page. Choose your site name. This will be affixed to the Atlassian.net website as we are creating a cloud site. Next, fill in your name, email and password information.
If you sign in with an email address that you've previously used, you may not be eligible for the free demo. To ensure that your demo is provided for free, register with a newly created email address which is disposable after the demo. After clicking start now, you will be presented with a confirmation screen that's asking you to check your email. After clicking start now, you will be presented with a confirmation screen asking you to check your email. This may take a few minutes. If it's still not delivered, be sure to check your junk mail.
After clicking the verification link in your email you will be brought to a spinning up message screen. After the spin up is complete you should then be presented with a sign in screen. Choose admin as your user name, and the password you specified on your account creation screen. You will now be presented with a configuration demo. We are going to proceed through these steps together slowly to make sure your demo project is properly configured. Select your native language, I'm going to choose United States English. I then select continue.
You don't need to choose an avatar so skip this step by clicking next. Next, we're going to select create a sample project under the text, see a project in action, on the far left of the three options that we are presented with. On the create a project with sample data pop up, we are going to choose Kanban software development, the option on the right under software. Then I select next. Now we are going to use the text demo for both the name and the key of the project.
I'm then going to select submit. You should then be presented with a Kanban board, but we actually want to start on the home page. So I'm going to go ahead and click the JIRA image on the top left of the screen to return to the main system dashboard. You should now be on the system dashboard page. And we are ready to begin.
