Join Thom Tremblay for an in-depth discussion in this video Saving steps using a contour flange, part of Inventor: Sheet Metal Design.
…If you make gutters or extruded metal shapes or…components with a lot of intricate bends, you might find that…the alternative approach of using contour flange is very beneficial.…Let's take a look at a couple of different applications.…For example, here we have a part with a lot of bends.…And this would require not only a face but…probably ten or 12 flange features to generate just this shape.…Another option is where we need a complex shape to go around a simple parameter,…creating this using the flange tools would take a lot of time,…add a lot of complexity to the model and really get us no better result.…
Let's take a look at how we create these two examples.…In the first case we'll start out with a simple sketch.…What this sketch should represent is the critical dimensions that…your part needs to follow.…There's no need to include all of the bends in the sketch.…That will be added by the contour flange tool.…In a case, for…example, on the upper right, where we have a four millimeter radius,…that's a bend that outside the standard rule and we want to establish in advance.…
