Basic mesh refinement

Basic mesh refinement

- Autodesk Inventor Professional's automatic mesh generation does a good job, but there are times where you might have a small feature or a critical feature that you want to make sure is interrogated a little more thoroughly. In these cases we might want to use tools like Mesh Refinement. Let's generate the default mesh for this part and see how it looks. There'll be high stress concentrations on the edge around this U-shaped groove, so I want to use the Mesh Refinement tool. I can select either Faces or Edges, and then I can set a specific mesh or a specific element size that I want to use around this edge. To generate this I'll just simply right-click and from the Marking menu use my Update Mesh tool. You'll see that the areas nearest that edge now have a finer mesh applied to them. We can also make some other changes, for example, conversions. We can tell it that we want to run multiple iterations if need be to refine the mesh, and we can also tell it to stop if the results fall…
