Inkscape comes with a set of pre-made patterns…that you can use in your artwork.…And even better, you can use any of your own graphics…to make patterns as well.…Let's see how it's done.…To apply one of Inkscape's pre-made patterns…as a fill or a stroke, click on the "Pattern" button…and then choose one from the menu.…So I'll select this object,…go to the Fill and Stroke dialog,…in this case I want a Fill, I'll click on pattern.…And there are several striped patterns to choose from,…with black stripes and transparent gaps.…The numbers and the names of the patterns…show the ratio of the thickness of the stripe…to the gaps between the stripes.…
So 1:1 is equal width stripes and gaps,…2:1 is stripes twice as thick as the gaps, and so on.…There are also checkerboard patterns,…polka dots in a variety of sizes,…waves,…and bitmap patterns like sand,…cloth,…and old paint.…
OK, let's see how to make your own pattern.…I'll select this flower graphic…by dragging over it with the Select tool,…and choose Object, Pattern, Objects to Pattern.…
