Join Mike Rankin for an in-depth discussion in this video Saving files for the web, part of Inkscape Essential Training.
- In this movie, we'll look at the options…for saving Inkscape documents…in various file formats to use for web graphics.…Let's start by going to the File menu…and choosing Save As,…and the Save As dialog box opens.…Under the Save as type menu,…I can click and see a bunch of file formats…that I can save my Inkscape document to.…And, right at the top in the options,…there are four options for saving in SVG format.…There's Inkscape SVG, Plain SVG,…and compressed versions of both of these.…
The difference between Inkscape SVG and Plain SVG…is that Inkscape SVG simply adds metadata in the file…that makes the graphics easier to work with inside Inkscape.…Nothing is different in terms of compatibility…with any other software or the appearance of the graphics.…The only reason you might choose Plain SVG…is to keep the file size to a minimum…or if you expect the SVG code will be manipulated…outside of Inkscape at some point.…The compressed formats will save some file size,…but those files won't be viewable in a viewer…
