Working with piers

- In this video, we're going to look at the piers that make up our bridge. Open up the Piers.sqlite model found under Exercise Files > 7_Bridge_Design. The bridge spans the water feature, so let's zoom in to there. Now we also want to turn off the conceptual view, so the water stops moving, and we can see under the ground. We'll switch to engineering view. Now you can see the piers and the supports underneath the bridge. Let's pick on the bridge itself. I picked on the road, so I'll pick on the side. There we are. You can tell we've picked on the bridge, because you'll see it in the stack on the right-hand side. Right-click. For component display, we're going to turn off the road, the deck, and the girders, so we can focus on the piers themselves. That's great. Let's tip under the ground, or under the water, and we'll zoom right in and look at one of the piers. Let's select the first pier we see. You'll see it's pier one, listed in the stack. Here we can change some of the factors, everything from the skew to the cap height and so on. I may want to change the texture to brick. There we are. Next we may want to change the width. Change the width to perhaps four instead of 3.28. Same with the front, four. There we go. And finally we may want to rotate. Pick on the rotate gizmo, and I'll set it to an angle of 20. Since the bridge slightly curves around the water feature, we can turn each pier this way instead of manually doing each pier. I can now right-click on this pier and say apply to all piers, so they'll all get the brick texture, they'll all change their size, and they'll all rotate 20 degrees. So by working on a single pier, I can then apply those changes to all the piers in my bridge.
