Terrain themes

- [Instructor] For those who are familiar with G-I-S, themes are pretty much standard in any G-I-S software. Of course, we're not working specifically with G-I-S software, we're working with Infoworks. But, we can take some of the ideas of themes and we're going to see that there are themes available within Infoworks and how we can apply them. Now, we're going to come in and we're going to make sure our proposal's set to terrain theme. And then the themes are found in our build, manage, and analyze category. We open that up and our fourth subsection here is analyze the model here. And so, we're going to select one of the themes. Now notice some of the themes that are available. Now we're going to look at point clouds a little bit later with inoperability but, you have terrain themes and feature themes that we're going to focus in on. So let's choose terrain themes. When we do, there may be a theme already here, but we're going to add a new theme. And this theme we're going to call LinkedIn. Now there's a few different types of terrain analysis that you can do. You can do it by elevation, aspect, or slope. We're going to choose elevation. And then it selects, based upon the data that it's using for the terrain that we've specified as the data type of terrain, it's going to identify the minimum and maximum values in this proposal. And then we can establish a certain number of rules. The higher the number of rules, the more colors that there's going to be, the more that you're going to have variations of. So, we're going to just change this up to twenty. We want to see a nice variety of coloration. We also want to bump our transparency somewhere about halfway so that we can still see through and see the aerials and we can see the buildings, we can see the information, the roads underneath when we apply this theme. The pallet type really establishes the color schemes that we're going to be working from. Now, we could just pick a starting color and an ending color and the software will try to establish that scheme for us, but I prefer to try to find one that really works and that may provide a familiar interface. So, I'm going to choose contour pallet. This is that scheme that we may be familiar with, where green is a little bit lower and then, as we go up, it's a relief map, ultimately. Go ahead and click ok. We told it to apply twenty different colors and you'll see these twenty different colors applied now to our map. You can look at your theme and it will provide and it will show you those colors listed here. Or you can just visually see the different colors applied using your terrain theme. So, terrain themes just gives us the ability to have a nice visual in the background to better understand maybe the constraints or a properties or projects benefits or threats. Whatever we may be dealing with as we work through our design.
