- [Instructor] One of the most time-consuming variables when it comes to using InfraWorks, is to be able to have a good existing base to work from. That model that you're going to build off of. And so you have to collect all of the data from all these different data sources. But InfraWorks comes with a tool that helps you create that existing model. That existing model tool is called ModelBuilder. So we're going to use this ModelBuilder, and we're going to create a new model.
So I'm going to click Here, and we're going to Search By Location. So we're going to go somewhere like Atlanta, Georgia. And it zooms us right in, and of course we can even then use our wheel, or other means to navigate and find what and where we're looking for. So let me just zoom in on a little location here, and as we do, if you're not really sure you can always use the Birdseye View, to get a better feel for if you're in the right location or not, and of course it'll show the buildings and the land area as well.
Gets you kind of properly placed, especially if you're looking at a site, to better know that you're in the right location. And so we're going to get the existing data model for this little triangle right here, and I'm going to use, instead of just whatever is in the window, as default, I'm going to use a means to create a polygonal region. In this case it's a window. But you can also create irregular shapes, or import the shape or polygon for that area of interest.
So we're going to just pull and create that window by Clicking in One Of The Corners, Holding and Clicking the Other Corner. Now that I have this location, we're going to Name our Model. Call if roughly where it's located, Norcross, Georgia in this case. And then we're going to Create our Model. Now when we do this, notice that it gives us a message back, it says we're preparing your new model, it may take a few minutes. When you're model is ready, they're going to just send you an email.
Now that email is going to be sent to the email address associated with the subscription account that you're logged in on. But even if you don't have access to that email, notice that last sentence your model will be available on InfraWorks Home. And so if we go back and Close Model Builder here, it will show up right here in our InfraWorks Home Page, once it has been created. So it immediately was created, it didn't take that long, and so I'm just going to Click On that Model, because we see the Cloud symbol here, it's located in the Cloud.
It first has to download that model, and then it will open the model up for us. So let's see once it's downloaded. It says it'll take it just a few seconds to do so, and once it does, we're going to see how detailed this model is. Now of course, it depends on where you're trying to create the model. If you're creating the model in Downtown Atlanta, or in New York, your model's going to be a lot more accurate, because there's a lot more information available than if you're in the country. But we see that we have not only roads that came in, but we also have aerial images.
We also have buildings that came in, and of course we would have waterways, if water was available. And notice that, as I move my model around, that there's topography associated as well. So we're going to of course take this model, and we're going to make it a little bit more accurate, including the aerial images, as we proceed. But, did you see how quick it was for us to be able to have a model to work from some existing base to create, that ModelBuilder is truly a lifesaver.
