Adding ArcGIS data sources to the model

- [Instructor] All right. We've set up an ArcGIS organization. We have added new members. We've added content. We've shared that content with creative groups. Now for the fun stuff. Now we're going to bring it into our InfraWorks model. We have opened the model called Broadway Corridor Start. Now this is in your collaboration InfraWorks and ArcGIS, InfraWorks models, Broadway Corridor Start, that's where it is. So just open that from your InfraWorks homepage, and we are signed in as John, so our second user. We're not signed in as our ArcGIS trial account administrator, we're signed in as John. He's been added as a content creator, and he's been given permission to see various pieces of content. We're in the Master Proposal. There are two proposals, so make sure that you're in the Master Proposal. And now what we can do is, we can add our content. So you may have noticed, that InfraWorks has changed a little with the latest version, very snazzy. So from the Manage panel, you can go to Content, you can either click on the Data Sources button, which will open up the Data Sources panel, and the ArcGIS button is there; or you can do it directly from the Content panel, it's completely up to you. I'm going to choose the Autodesk Connector button on the Manage tab with the Content panel, and we'll be asked to sign in to our ArcGIS online account. Now we're going to sign in as John, our user two. So he's the one who's both part of the organization, and he's using InfraWorks. So let's just leave that as it is, 'cause we want to sign into ArcGIS.com, click connect. Next it's going to ask us to sign in, and that's what we're going to do, we're going to sign in as John. Now one thing that you should be aware of, is just to make it easier for yourself when you are part of multiple ArcGIS online organizations, try and make different, if not usernames, at least different passwords for each one. So don't use the same login and password for every one, otherwise it's going to get confusing. So make sure that you sign in with the correct login and password, and then just hit sign in. Next up, the Audodesk connector for ArcGIS shows up. And by default, you will have an outline of where your model is. So you can still search by location, you can type in another city, you can do anything like that. You could adjust the area of interest, you can draw a new rectangle. So for example if we clicked on this little button over here that says draw a rectangle to select an area of interest, we could go right over here, or right over here, it's completely up to you. However, by default, the extents of the model is shown in the little blue box. On the left hand side is the panel where we have the content. Now look at this, there's just stacks and stacks of content, all of which will be almost no use to us. So if you have a public entity, for example, like the City of Portland, who does contribute to open GIS data, you could type in City of Portland, and hit enter. That will narrow the search results, and you can see things like the area parking permits, the attendants limits, all sorts of activities, the bicycle network, it's a huge amount of data that you have. However, you're probably more interested in finding content that you either created, or that your colleagues have created. Now if I go to My Content, John hasn't created any content yet. All the content that was uploaded to the ArcGIS online organization that we're a member of, was created by Jane. It was created by user one. So he won't see anything in My Content. So let's go on to My Groups. And here we have the Broadway Corridor Project, which is fantastic, that's what we want to access. However, it seems to be grayed out. And this is just a little tip that I found, is if you find things are grayed out, just click in the search window again, hit enter without typing anything, and the Broadway Corridor Project, your groups, will be live again. I don't know why, I've just found that's happened sometimes. So the first thing that we're going to do, is we're going to bring in new information. We're going to bring the development outline, we're going to click on that, and we'll see that a little panel pops up. You can either hide it or show it. And we have to figure out what kind of InfraWorks feature type it's going to be. We're going to choose a parcel, 'cause we just want an outline of what the development area is going to be, basically the development footprint. This little eye button over here, if we click that, we will be able to see where the data actually is. So that will give us a preview of the data. Now we want to add the second set of data that we have in the Broadway Corridor project to our design project as well. And we'll click the little check box in the top left hand corner, noticing that we have to specify a feature type for the selected layers. Now we've already done that for the development outline, so we don't have that little triangle. However, we still need to do that for the buildings. Buildings are of course going to be buildings. Again we can click the little eye icon. And we can zoom out and just have a look at the buildings that are going to be within our model extent. So once we've done both of those, we configured the development outline, we've configured the buildings, click add to my design project. InfraWorks will connect to the ArcGIS data and will import it into the project. However, it may take a little bit of time, depending on the complexity of the layers that you're bringing in.
