- [Instructor] Starting in Microsoft Access 2013, we have the ability to calculate inside the table design. This expands our capabilities outside of queries and inside to the actual data. Just remember, when you're working with linked tables, you can't change the design of the linked tables. Okay, let's go take a look. So our zip codes table. Let's go ahead and double-click our zip codes table. We discovered that our zip codes need the four digit characters, even if they're zeros after the actual zip code. So I'm going to go build that in to the table. Real heavy calculations, I typically will not build into the table design. But something simple and easy like this, I will. Okay, I'll go ahead and right-click the zip codes and go to the design view. Now I like to keep my original zip code, so I'm going to go create an updated zip code and the data type here will be calculated. I can queue the letter C or I can choose calculated from the list.
