Join Amy Balliett for an in-depth discussion in this video People care less than goldfish, part of Learning Infographic Design.
- In the year 2000, the average attention span…of a general consumer was 12 seconds long.…To be clear, attention span is defined…as the amount of time someone will spend…looking at something before deciding…if they want to give it more of their time.…Think of it like judging a book by its cover.…By 2012, attention span had dwindled…to just eight seconds.…And by 2014, it fell further to five seconds.…To put this in perspective, the average…attention span of a goldfish is nine seconds.…
The third rule of infographic design…centers around this exactly.…People care less than goldfish.…You only have five seconds to hook someone…before they swim away.…Given this, it's important to include…a visual hook in your infographic design…that will grab your viewer's attention…while also giving them a reason to dive deeper.…If the infographic is a traditional…long scroll design, then make sure…to have a compelling stat, illustration,…or data visualization within the top 700 pixels…to ensure the hook remains above…the top 1/3rd of any screen.…
