A look at a magazine: Breathe
- Breathe Magazine, another beauty, another young magazine. Says it's about wellbeing, mindfulness, creativity, and escaping. And the design works to that vision, starting with beautiful illustrations. An illustration can do what a photograph can't. It can depict an imaginary or idealized world. This cover, for example, couldn't feel more carefree. Small barefoot figure, resting under a parasol in an enormous garden. Summer, cool, green, soothing. Inside, lots of white space. White space conveys serenity and rest. There's an unhurried quality to it. Beautifully open type, plenty of line spacing, none of the formality of justified type. Everything is aligned left and relaxed and the whole vibe is quiet, open, expansive, lines are soft, type is small, colors are gentle. And no advertising either, this is a big factor. Ads would bring noise, agitating, demanding, spoiling the setting. It's a beautiful magazine, just so peaceful to read.
