What you should know before watching this course

- Before you begin this course in earnest, you need to be aware that there are some basic requirements you ideally need to meet before starting. I have tried to make the course as accessible as possible from a prior learning perspective, but there are simply some things you must at least be basically familiar with, foremost of which is HTML. You don't need to be able to do anything like build a website, or anything like that from scratch. Far from it. But as long as you can understand what's going on in the code on this screen, you will be just fine. If not, then you have got a couple of choices. You could try and muddle through, and I've seen people learn things like this that way and be quite successful. Or perhaps the best advice would be to take in a course like James Williamson's HTML Essential Training, which you'll find here on the lynda.com online training library. Other than that, assuming you've already made your EPUB in something like InDesign, or Pages, or Word, then you will need to be able to crack it open and get to the documents inside. For that, you are going to need to use a program like Sigil or Calibre, and you will be able to find out more about those in the next movie. Those things aside, if you are okay with making accurate text edits, HTML and CSS are, in language terms, pretty basic. And for that you can read unforgiving, so you will need to watch your accuracy. So if you are okay with that, and saving, and all of the other regular stuff associated with working with documents on a computer, then you are good to go. So there you are. Those are the course prerequisites. In the next movie, as I said a moment ago, we are going to take a quick look at Sigil and Calibre.
