Types of color
- [Instructor] Using consistent color in your branding is essential. In addition to aesthetic considerations, there are also some technical considerations because different print or publishing processes have different ways of representing color. Always use color specifications rather than a verbal description of your color to ensure consistency. In print, there are two main standards, CMYK and Pantone. Materials printed using CMYK, or four color process printing, as it's also called, are made up of overlapping dots in cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks. These inks are specified as percentages on a scale of zero to 100. CMYK is a subtractive color model, meaning that the more ink you have, the darker the color. Pantone is a premixed, or spot color that is chosen from a swatch book, or color matching system and can be applied as a single ink, rather than a combination of CMYK. The most commonly used color…
