Three ways to abolish runts (short last lines)

- [Instructor] Let's talk about runts. ♪ Baby ♪ No, let's talk about runts and how to get rid of them. Now, what are runts? We're not talking about very short people. We're talking about when the last line of a paragraph is too short as opposed to a widow or an orphan, those terms that refer to a single last line of a paragraph being at the top or the bottom of a column. So now, for some publications and for some designers, you really don't care about runts. It's okay with you if you have just a very short line at the end or a single word. But other people, it drives them crazy and so after they flow in the text, they're going through and they're doing soft returns or all other kind of manipulations to force more than one word or half a word on the last line because they like how it looks better.
