Join Anne-Marie Concepción for an in-depth discussion in this video Setting up a "style cascade" with the Next Style feature, part of InDesign: Designing Templates.
- Let's take a look at paragraph style cascades.…What do I mean by cascade?…Well, do you remember that little bit of magic…that I showed you earlier in this course…with this spread right here?…Here we have a whole pile of text that…you know, has the same format, let's say…we just placed it from Word and told it…to strip out any paragraph styles…and I was able to select it all,…I'm just going to press Cmd or Ctrl+A…to select the whole thing…and in Paragraph Styles panel I right-clicked…on a style and chose Apply the Next Style…and, holy moly, look at that,…we have applied a whole bunch of different…paragraph styles with one right-click.…
That is the power of a style cascade,…it all depends on Based On styles.…If I click inside of any paragraph here…and I look inside the Paragraph Styles panel,…BodyCopyParagraph, right,…if I double-click it to look under the covers…you can see that the Next Style is the same style,…and that is the default for InDesign.…Whenever you create a paragraph style…it fills in the Next Style field with Same Style.…
