Setting up images and captions with tables

- One of the most fundamental characteristics of a table is its underlying grid. If you keep this in mind and at the same time free yourself from thinking that a table equals a spreadsheet, there are all kinds of layout problems that can be solved with tables, and they have nothing to do with spreadsheets. Here's one example where an InDesign table ended up being the perfect solution for what would've otherwise been a real hassle to set up. Can you see the table on this page? Well, it's actually this series of images with captions underneath on the right-hand page. I'm going to turn off the background photo layer so we can see the table a little more closely. I'll hold down the Z key and I want to zoom in really close to the edge of this table. One thing that made this so tricky is that not only is this a series of images with captions underneath, but there is a hairline rule around every image and every caption.
