- [Instructor] Picking up from where I left off, I now want to replace the placeholder text that we've been working with with the real story. To do that, I'm going to select the threaded story, put my type cursor into the story, and press command or control A. Then come to the type menu and choose place. So I'm placing a Word file. To see more options for how I can control the formatting, how the formatting of the Word file is translated into InDesign formatting, I can choose show import options. Or if I don't want that checked permanently, I can just hold down the shift key while I click open. So these are my Word import options. Depending on how the file has been prepared by your author, one or other may be preferable. If the file has loads of egregious formatting, and you just want to get rid of it and start with vanilla text, you can remove styles and formatting.
