The OPF file
- [Instructor] Now I want to introduce the OPF file, which you might think of as the project manager of the EPUB file. It organizes all the various components of the document, describes them, and describes their interactions when necessary. OPF stands for Open Package Format. It is an XML file but with an OPF extension. There are five parts of the OPF file, all of which are required for validation. The XML doc type is the header of the document. The first line of the doc type tells the renderer engine that is reading the file that it is in XML, and the second tells it where to go to find the rules of this particular file type. In this case, it's directing it to the OPF standard on the IDPF website. The IDPF or the International Digital Publishing Forum was the body responsible for developing the EPUB specification.
