Merging and splitting cells
- Sometimes the information in our table is not always a perfect grid of rows and columns. There are lots of reasons we might need to combine two or more cells, or divide one cell into two. Fortunately, InDesign makes it very easy to do this using the Merge and Split Cell commands. Let's take a look. I'm going to start by selecting two cells. To Merge them, I can just right mouse click to get my contextual menu, and choose Merge Cells. It's that easy. Now I have one cell. I can select any group of cells that I like and Merge them. We can go through this table and make a Mondrian pattern. In addition to Merging cells, I can Split cells, so I can come in to an existing cell, and Split it. Or I can come in to one of the cells that I've Merged, and Split that. I can even Unmerge cells. I'll come back into this original two cells that I Merged, and now I can Unmerge them. Lots of possibilities here. Now this a lot of fun but let's take a look at this on another table. I'm going to scroll…
