Join Anne-Marie Concepción for an in-depth discussion in this video Index panel enhancement, part of InDesign CC 2019 New Features.
- [Instructor] Adobe has tweaked one of the dialog boxes belonging to the Index panel in CC2019 to make it a little easier to add index entries. I have the Index panel open right now and I have a short document to which I've created a short index already and laid out on the last page right here. Now there's nothing that much different about the Index panel itself as compared to 2018. And I'll jump there in a second so you can remember what it looks like.
But what is new is when you add a new page reference. So for example, let's say I wanna add this word sugar right here. So I click add new page reference and there's the word sugar. Now here's what new, I'm gonna note the size of this dialog box. Let's jump to 2018, and it's shorter. I told you there's small tweaks. Like here we can see symbols up to E and in 2019 we can see symbols up to H.
Still can't resize it, which would make a lot of sense. But they've added a little bit more room. Plus they've added a Find field here. Now there's still a Find field here, but when you're adding index entries sometimes you want to search right here without havin' to close this out and search here. Notice that in 2018 there is no Find field. So for example, I wanna add sugar. I'm curious if sugar has already been added, so I'm gonna click in Find and say sugar and there's brown sugar and then I can use the up and down arrows, find the next one.
Ah, there's sugar and it's lowercase. Alright, so I don't wanna create another entry with an uppercase entry. So I'll type that sugar, and then I'll click Add. And Done, and now if I twirl this open under sugar, there's two entries, there you go. So you have a slightly larger size of the panel itself and the ability to find, to search, within the page references. Little tweaks, they can make life better.
