Manage text flow

- [Instructor] In this movie we'll take a look at how to flow text in InDesign. Let's say we needed to bring in some recipe text into our layout from a Microsoft Word document. This is a very common scenario in publishing. I'll choose File, Place, and in the Exercise Files folder for this movie I'll choose the Word file, Caramel Recipes.docx, and click Open. In InDesign I have the loaded Place cursor and now to flow this text I have several options. First, I can just click anywhere on the page and InDesign will create a single text frame with the top of the frame at my cursor and the sides and bottom snapping to the nearest margin guides. Now since I have more text than will fit in this frame I have overset text, as indicated by the little red plus sign at the bottom right of the frame. To flow the overset text into a new linked frame I can click on the overset indicator and I'll click in the second column to add a frame there. Now I still have all the text in one story, but that…
