Making grids

Sooner or later, you're going to need to make a grid of objects, maybe an array of pictures like a yearbook, or a bunch of name tags on a single page. There are lots of reasons to make objects in a rectangular or square grid, and fortunately, InDesign has several tools to help you do it quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately, while they are powerful tools, they are not always intuitive. Let me show you what I mean. I have my Catalog file open from the Exercise folder, and I'm going to go to the previous spread by holding down the Option key on the Mac or Alt on Windows, and then pressing Page Up. I'd like to put a grid of fames in the upper left corner of this page, and I'm going to show you four or five different ways to do it. The first method is to use Step and Repeat. With this method, I need to first drag out a frame, holding down the Shift key to keep it constrained to a square. Then, I'll go to the Edit menu and choose Step and Repeat.
