Italic and oblique type

- [Voiceover] Here are a few things to consider when using italic and oblique type. Firstly, to apply italicizing. Let's say I want to make this passage on the right italic. I'll double-click my cursor into the text frame and press Command + or Control + A to select all of the type. Now, if an italic version of the typeface exists, I can use the keyboard shortcut cmd + or ctrl + shift + i to apply italics. I'll now just undo that, Command + or Control + Z. I can also come to the Font Style menu. Because italics are considered harder to read than regular or Roman text, it's best to use italics sparingly. And really, just for emphasis. Another point I want to make is that when an italic version of a typeface exists, it is a separately drawn character from the Roman or regular version. And we can see that here with Minion Pro. Look at the shape of the A in the regular compared to the shape of the A in the italic version. So it's a completely separate font. And the existence of an italic…
