Join Kevin Callahan for an in-depth discussion in this video Exporting EPUB3 from InDesign CC 2015, part of Creating Fixed-Layout Ebooks for the Kindle.
- The Kindle fixed layout format and EPUB3 are…similar enough that you can use one file as…a beginning point for both products,…but the Kindle format needs additional markup…in the HTML and CSS which enables text magnification…and introduces some exciting design ideas…that EPUB3 can't match.…The first question is, can you export a fixed layout…EPUB from InDesign?…Here we have a little picture book, The Little Red Hen,…with some nice design features, on text in red,…illustration centered beneath the text, a drop cap,…text on a path, text distributed among spot illustrations,…text wrapped around an illustration and a big text block.…
Let's go ahead and export this to EPUB3 fixed layout.…We'll go to file, export.…Make sure that we have EPUB fixed layout,…not reflowable but fixed layout,…we're going to save it to the desktop and click save,…we'll just leave all the settings as they are for now,…click ok, it opens automatically in iBooks,…and there's our cover, A Little Red Hen, scroll through,…there's our title page with the text rendered exactly…
