DNA of lead spreads: Kids

- Next section is called Kids. Identical to Babies in concept and execution. Super simple photo. This time red. Turn a few pages. Identical layout as before but in reverse. Photo on the left. Text on the right. And, of course, the color is now red. Turn a few more pages and we see a full page sidebar on the left. It's set off by a wide salmon-color border and three columns of Franklin Gothic text, same as the other sidebars except aligned left, which makes sense. It's in text columns. The head, the deck head, and the byline are all set in the style of the other stories. Note the photo bleeds past the border and off the top. This breaks a pattern, so to speak. It's unframed and by bleeding, it can be bigger, which is another benefit of bleed photos. On the right, the callout in the style of the others, but red, is centered in a phantom white rectangle. This is a style choice. It could just as easily have gone into either column, although that would have required that the text jump over…
