- [Instructor] Build a full set of landmarks. Landmarks are a breakout section in the epub three navigation document which lists the bones of an e-book. It replaces the guide in epub two. Having a full set of landmarks helps with the MOBI conversion process pointing KindleGen to the TOC and pointing to the start front matter, title page, copyright page, body matter, TOC, bibliography, index, et cetera. The example that you can see on your screen has the landmarks that shows the simple bones of this document which is not very complex. So cover, title page, front matter, start of content, and list of illustrations. It's worth pausing here to comment on the point of epub type semantics. Landmarks are an additional navigational layer that works in some reading systems. They are pulled from epub type semantics, a layer of meaning folded into the html, that sends a signal to a assistive technology.
