Brief principles of HTML and CSS

- [Instructor] HTML and CSS are two of the core technologies used if digital publishing. Some of you taking this course may think these are difficult to learn but I promise you this is not true. Both are designed to be easy to learn, uncomplicated and most importantly predictable to render. HTML is used to define the meaning of content while CSS is used to stipulate how the content will be displayed. HTML stands for hypertext markup language and is defined as the W3C, The World Wide Web Consortium. The standards body which governs the web. It is a standardized system for tagging text files to achieve font, color, graphic and hyperlink effects on world-wide webpages. The acronym CSS stands for cascading style sheets. And is a plain text file format used for formatting content on webpages. Both of these standards are ever evolving and can be quite complex but are fairly straightforward at their core.
