- [Narrator] We are all human, and being human carries with it a whole range of circumstances. Life happens, we're the sum of all our experiences and the world we live in, that's why a resume, as important as it is, can't just be boilerplate. Yes, it should convey the essential information that a recruiter is looking for, but it also needs to be real. I've had people ask me some tough questions about how to cover up or conceal things that they thought would work against them on a resume. Most have to do with time between jobs. Getting laid off or even getting fired from a job is painful, but it's also very common, especially in creative fields. Be honest about any breaks in work time. There are ways to acknowledge a break while putting a positive spin on your abilities and your intentions to move forward. How can you handle gaps in your work history?
