Auto-leading: When to avoid it, when to use it

- [Voiceover] In this movie I'll say a few words about auto leading, and hopefully encourage you to not use it. Auto leading is 120 percent of your point size which means that as your type gets bigger you're leading gets bigger and as your type gets smaller your leading gets smaller. That's convenient, but the problem is that as your type gets bigger, 120 percent is just too much for the line space, for the most part. So while the difference between paragraphs two and paragraphs three are not that striking, I think the example on the right, paragraph three, looks better, and this uses an absolute amount of leading. So I've actually come and changed it to a fixed amount of plus two points, or in this case 35 points. That does mean that if I change the size of my type I am gonna need to change the size of my leading as well. So it's more work for me, but I get to control the amount of spacing in my paragraphs and that's very important if you want to achieve consistency. Where auto…
