You know how a Paragraph Style can change the formatting for an entire paragraph, but wouldn't it be cool if you could automatically format different parts of a paragraph differently? For example, what if you could set up a rule so that the first sentences of a paragraph were formatted one way, and then the next sentence formatted a different way, and so on? That's what Nested Styles and Line Styles are all about. I have my catalog file open from the Exercise folder for a great example. I'm going to zoom in on this text down here, and I want the first two lines of this paragraph to be in small caps. I could just select that text and apply a small caps character style or manual formatting, but what if the text were going to be edited later? That would be a problem, because the text might reflow and I would have to go back there and fix the formatting. So, instead of manually applying it, I'm going to change the paragraph style.
