When it comes to responsive design or even app design, a lot of us will design to some sort of a grid. In terms of responsive design, we design to a set column grid for a few reasons. One of them being that the template or theme, or starter code we usually begin the development with has a column grid already defined—so we design to that. When it comes to a simpler low-fi wireframe, setting a guides is up to you. If you are shooting for a low-fidelity wireframe the precision a grid or guides offer may not be necessary.
