330 Add corner brackets around a frame

- [Instructor] You know that you can add a stroke around a whole frame, but what if you want to add a stroke just to the corners of a frame, like this frame over here. Well, here's how to do it. I'm going to use this frame over here on the right to practice with. Now you'll see I already applied a stroke to this whole frame. And I made it four points thick. Now I want to turn it into a dashed stroke. So, I'll head over here to the Stroke panel. And when I open that, you'll see I have my 4 pt, normal, solid stroke. But in this case, I'm going to change the Type popup menu from Solid to Dashed. Now, I don't mean the dashed strokes up here, where it says Dashed (3 and 2) or Dashed (4 and 4). I'm talking about the Dashed at the very bottom. Now when you choose that, it opens up a super-secret section at the bottom of the panel. And here, you can type in exactly how long you want your dash and your gap to be. In this case, I'm going to change the dash to, say, 48 pt. Now, you'll see that I have my corner brackets, but I also have these dashes in the middle. I want to get rid of those. Also, if I look closely at these corner brackets, there a little bit uneven. One side is longer than the other and I don't like that. The next step is to change the gap, this second field, and apply the largest gap you can, which is 800 pt. Then, you want to change the Corners popup menu to Adjust gaps. That means, allow InDesign to change the width of the gaps however much it wants to, to make it fit, but don't change the width of the dash. And the result is perfect. Corner brackets on each corner of this frame. Let's go ahead and close the Stroke panel and you can see. And the awesome thing is that we can change the size of the frame to whatever we want and the brackets keep working.
