408 The master page trick

- [Instructor] If you've used master pages in InDesign, you've probably run into this problem. See how, over on the left page, there's a page number? But over on the right-hand page, the page number's missing. What's going on? Well, over here, there's a colored frame sitting on top of it. See, if I move that frame, you can see the page number. Let me put that back with a Command + Z or Control + Z on Windows. So how do I get that page number, which is sitting on the master page, above that frame? Well, you might try choosing that frame, going to the Object menu, and choosing Arrange, Send to Back, but it won't work. It won't work because the object cannot go behind stuff on a master page, or can it? Here's the trick. It's super simple but so important. Put the master page object on a different layer, above this one. Like I'll jump to my master page A by double-clicking on it inside the Pages panel. There's my text frame with a page number in it.
