- [Instructor] There is great value in being flexible and adaptable, and InDesign gives you a lot of features that help you with this. And I wanna share one special text character that you may not know about and which can really help you make flexible, high-quality documents. That character is called a discretionary line break, and it's awesome for when you sometimes need a line to break and sometimes you don't. For example up here you'll see a bold running head, and it's followed by a dot and then an en space, that's wider than a regular space. Then there's some more text of course. Now what happens if I make this text frame more narrow. I'll simply drag this right handle over to the left and you'll see that that text following the heading moves down to the second line. If I make it even more narrow, though, wow, what happened? Why did that last word of the heading move down to the second line? I mean there's plenty of space there for the whole word, right?
