- A common problem in a lot of InDesign files are the lack of stringent applications of styles to text. If you open up the paragraph styles panel, be specific. What you want to see are no pluses. See the little plus here right after body? That means that there is an override. So, somebody has applied a style, but then they've selected that text and applied some other local formatting. The problems that I see a lot are that every single style has a plus symbol no matter where you click. Now this document is not that bad, just because I don't want it to be too confusing to you. It is worth it to sit down for half an hour with a document that you use all the time, like say it's a magazine that you're working on or a brochure, or a catalog. Try and clean up the application of styles. The first step that I want to show you in this video is how to find local overrides to characters. Then how to quickly convert those into character styles.
