051 Five things that should be in every new file

Every new InDesign document you create should contain five things. Well, okay, maybe not every document you create; a shopping list, or a letter to your mom may not need all these things, but every real document you create, a book, magazine, brochure or something like that, you're going to need five things. And I'm not going to describe exactly how to make all of them in great detail. I'm not going to tell you what you should put in all of them. I'm just going to tell you exactly what I think that you should have in every document. First of all, layers. The default Layer 1 is just not enough. You need several layers to make this thing work. I'm going to Option+Click or Alt+Click and I'm going to create a layer called text. I'm going to do another one called graphics. Let's do another one, master page items.
