A quick start in Photoshop

- [Tony] Now if you're watching this course sequentially, in the previous movie I created a font quickly as a confidence builder in Illustrator. Now I'm going to do exactly the same here in Photoshop and it's worth you watching this even if you're an Illustrator user because you might pick up a tip based on the last movie. So I've got a PSD file here and you will see that it is all layered like so. And In fact, the layers are actually named and you can see there A, B, C, and so on, until you get to Z and then suddenly they go all numeric and you've got a bunch of numbers here as well. What I'm going to do is just click on the final layer there, just before the background and then hold down Shift and click on the first layer, so that they are all selected. I then go up to the Window menu and come down to Extensions and launch the Fontself extension from there. Now I've got some work I did earlier here, so I'm going to just clear this one by choosing New at the top here, and new font. And then I'm going to simply drag these characters in and because there's numbers and letters you can see that I've got choices here. I'll drag these on as a batch, like so. And they've come in nicely. There we go, we've got all of the numbers and you'll see that the layer names have come across and they've populated the area underneath all of the characters. So unlike what I did last time in the Illustrator file, where I could only type a few things because I had to go ahead and name all of these individually, you can now see how that's worked. You can also see here that this is color and both applications can do color fonts. So now if I go along here and clear what is currently in the preview window. I'm going to put my Caps Lock on because this font only has uppercase characters and numbers inside of it. Okay, and I'm just going to type my name, like so. Is, and let's just say, I'll say I'm over 21 (laughs) there we go. And you can see how all of that works. I get this really nice preview, I can come along and click on this small gear in the preview and increase the size there like so to make it easier to see. But I've created that font which I could now save out from here and use it in other places just in a few moments. And I didn't even bring in a guide for the baseline, but the Fontself extension has worked it out. So there you go. Now you've got confidence in not one, but hopefully two applications and now we can get into the nitty-gritty of working with the incredible Fontself extension for Photoshop and Illustrator.
