- With the exception of the grid tools, the line tools that we witnessed in the previous chapter let you draw open path outlines. That is to say, the first anchor point and the last anchor point do not connect. The open path begins at one point and ends at another, which is why these points are generally known as endpoints. In addition to the line tools, Illustrator offers a handful of shape tools. Each of these draws a closed path outline. The first anchor point and the last anchor point are one and the same. There is no endpoint. Everything connects, and so the path continues all the way around. If that perhaps sounds a bit elaborate, that's totally on me. The shape tools are actually a mostly straightforward bunch. One draws a rectangle from corner to opposite corner. Another draws rectangles with rounded corners. A third draws ellipses, which is essentially a symmetrical oval. A fourth draws regular polygons.…
