Working with a vector-based shape layer

- [Teacher] In this movie, we'll take a look at a way to make practical use of a shape layer inside Photoshop. Namely, well take this volleyball, along with its colorful shadow, and we'll mask it against this background in order to create this quick and dirty composition. But even though there's not much going on here, this is a very simple effect. The shadow, in all of its colors, blend perfectly into the new background. And so let's see how that works. Step one is to switch to the volleyball image, and then, make sure your rectangular marquee tools selected appear at the top of the toolbox. If it isn't, go ahead and click on it, or you can press its keyboard shortcut, which is the M key for marquee. Then, right-click inside the image window and choose the Duplicate Layer command. And now, if you're working along with me, change the document to Three backgrounds.psd, and then click OK. And because these images are the same physical size, that ends up registering the duplicate image…
