For this course to move fluidly, I have to assume at least an intermediate level of proficiency with Illustrator and Photoshop. If you've been working with these programs for some time and are looking for ways to creatively implement and combine their tools, and you have a lot of type, then you should find this course useful. On the other hand, while I will be explaining how and why I do things, this is not a comprehensive look at the feature set of these programs. For this, you should view the Essential Training titles here on Lynda.com.
I'm recording this title with Illustrator CC 2014, but the techniques I'm using are applicable in earlier versions. A word about my workspace. I'm using a customized workspace in Illustrator, starting with the Essentials workspace. I've added to this, the pathfinder group of panels which includes Align and Transform, and the Character, Paragraph and Open Type panels.
