One of the most powerful features of Adobe Illustrator is the ability to create appearances made of multiple attributes and effects on objects and groups. In this movie, Tony Harmer demonstrates the power of appearances and makes a fan of cards from a single, simple object.
- [Instructor] In this chapter,…we're going to be looking at appearances.…And they are, perhaps,…one of the most powerful features in Illustrator.…If you remember…back when we were discussing what vector shapes are,…I would've told you that they are really…mathematically described.…A line segment in Illustrator, on its own,…doesn't actually have any dimensions at all.…All of the strokes and fills applied to things,…they're just added as effects on top.…
And Illustrator can build on that.…And it's really important to embrace this,…because it makes one, your life a lot easier,…allowing you to do more complex things…without drawing too much.…And two, going forward,…it's something that's easily addressed…if you start to make Illustrator dynamic.…So you could, for example,…enter text and have that text change.…And in the future,…those sort of things will become quite normal.…So, get ahead of the curve right now.…For an illustration of this,…I've got this fan of cards just here.…
And if I go to the Layers panel,…and turn off the background layer here…
