Learn how to create an album cover inspired by the punk rock movement of the 1970s, complete with "ransom-note" type, using Photoshop and Illustrator.
- [Voiceover] Hi, I'm Nigel French. Welcome to Type Project: Punk. The punk music scene of the mid-1970s to early 80s had a different flavor on different sides of the Atlantic, but it shared a do-it-yourself ethic, and this carried over into the record covers, flyers, and 'zines that their music spawned. In this short, project-based course, we'll be designing the cover for the single of fictional punk bank, Wretched Factor.
The project combines Photoshop and Illustrator at an intermediate level. We'll begin in Photoshop where, with the use of layers, layer masks, and clipping masks, we'll prepare the cover image. Then, we'll switch to Illustrator, and use its touch type tool to create our ransom note type, and looks as if it's particularly associated with punk style. Let's begin, or hey ho, let's go.
